Visual Evidence

There is no substitute for good footage. Cameras operating at high speed slow down events that occur to quickly for the eye to follow. Computer animation systems create three dimensional pictures as if a camera were moving around- inside or outside- structures that do not exist, presenting images of events that never happened. But getting a shot is not all there is to making a documentary- not even when you are shooting events as they actually happen in the real world. We were working on a documentary about open education in a classroom of third and fourth graders. Fourth grade boys can be difficult and some teachers have trouble with this.
